First Day Jitters
Julie Danneberg
Age: 5 and up
It was
suggested by Professor Rose and I decided to choose this book because it
reminds me of what it will be like to teach my first class. I think I will
definitely have some nervousness before starting the first day. I also liked
the illustrations and how the words are positioned differently on some pages.
The story begins with
Mr. Hartwell peeking his head into his loved one, Sarah’s, room to tell her she
needs to wake up so she won’t be late for her first day of school. She tells
him she does not want to go because she hates having to start over at a new
school. He tells her that everything will be fine and she will meet new
friends. She tries to stay in bed but it does not work because Mr. Hartwell
tells her to be ready in five minutes. She gets dressed and they head to the
school. Her principal walks by and welcomes her as she slouches in her seat.
She has a hard time keeping up because of all of the students, but eventually
she gets to her classroom where most of the students are waiting. The book ends
with a twist. Sarah Jane Hartwell is this school and class’s new teacher!
