My Brother Charlie -- Candace McClain

Literature Review: Theme 3 – Special Needs
Title: My Brother Charlie
Author: Holly Robinson Peete and Ryan Elizabeth Peete
Age of reader: 6 and up
Why I chose this book:  I chose this book because it explains Autism to children through a sibling’s point of view.  I feel that it will be beneficial to students because they can understand that they can feel frustrated because of how the child with Autism could be acting and they will have an example of how to deal with their feelings of frustration because they will relate to the sister.

Plot summary: Callie narrates this story about living with her twin brother Charlie who has Autism.  She explains that she can feel frustrated at times but that she still loves her brother and has to be patient and understanding of how he is behaving.
