Jenna French: Children's Literature Review: Topic 4

Jenna French
Children’s Literature Review: Theme 4
Title: Civil War on Sunday
Author: Mary Pope Osborne
Age of Reader: 2nd/3rd
·         I chose this book because it is a fictional story that makes history come to life to the students. The book talks about the American Civil War and a famous historical figure, Clara Barton. The children are most likely being introduced to her for the first time so that’s another reason I chose this book and thought it would be helpful on teaching the history of the Civil War.
·         Jack and Annie have been on many adventures together. Today’s adventure is taking place on a Sunday afternoon. Jack and Annie are in the Magic Tree House where they are taken back in time to the American Civil War. On their journey they meet famous nurse, Clara Barton and they help her to wound injured soldiers.
